Guest Post: Holly Goes Lightly DIY Pearl Cage Nacklace

Hi Cupcake Couture readers!  My name is Holly, from Holly Goes Lightly :)  I'm so happy and excited to share this post with you today!!

Have any of you been to Silver Dollar City?  Well, back in the day my family made the pilgrimage to this hill billy amusement park (no, really!) in Missouri.  When I was there, I got one of those clam shells that they open for you so you can keep the pearl inside.  Mine was very pretty, and they packaged it up in a little baggy and off I went.

That pearl has stayed in the baggy ever since.  I figured it was high time I do something to make it wearable.  So, I came up with this cage pendant idea.  I tried several variations, but apparently bending metal is not my forte.  Instead, I used this simple spiral to hold my pearl.

You will need:

• Metal wire
• Pearl or other round bead or marble
• Jump ring
• Chain
• Round nose pliers
• Wire cutters

First, cut off a portion of your wire to make it more manageable.  Then, simply form it into a tight, tiny spiral that is just bigger than the diameter of your orb.

Separate the spiral by stretching it downward, and place your pearl inside.

Then, simply continue the spiral, tightening the diameter as you reach the top of the pearl.

Snip the excess, add a jump ring, and you're done!

You can wear it alone, but I thought mine looked kind of pretty along side a little crystal pendant.

Nails Inc. Dupe - Hard Candy, NOTD

Happy Tuesday!

I apologize for my lack of blog post yesterday, after work yesterday the fiance and I laid down at 7:30 and ended up passing out till 5 the next morning. 

We must have been exhausted! 

I don't know from what, we didn't have that much of an exciting weekend. Haha 

I think we got use to sleeping in..

I'm currently away at a hotel, all by myself, about to go to bed because I have a business conference to attend tomorrow. 

I have NEVER been to a business conference and I am SO nervous.

From what I take, it's just listening to the presenters. 

Let's hope so, I'm new to the industry and have very little knowledge.

Anyway, went to Wal-Mart this past friday because I needed hair dye. 

It's time to cover up my roots. 

I have grey hair and I'm only 26.

It's all the stress, I'm telling ya!

So, while I was there, I picked up two new nail polishes. 

 

I am trying to build my Essie nail polish collection, and I have been wanting this black color. It's pretty!

This one is in Pixie Pink, but I think it's more of a purple color. 

 

What's even better is there is no base coat. 

Which you don't even need. 

I love the color sequins that are in it. 

Plus these are only $4.00 each! Good deal.

It's a two day conference, and I'm missing my fiance so much.

Happy Tuesday!

Today the weather was absolutely beautiful. 

I even went on lunch with some girls at work outside!

After work the fiance and I went for some ice cream. 

It was such a nice day. :)

Always appreciate those little things that happen everyday!

Anyway, I finally got to hang my project that I was working on over the weekend tonight. 

I love the way it came out. It looks so cute.

I honestly didn't even follow her tutorial, but it's probably the same that I did. So if you're interested in making one, see how I made mine: 

I bought cardboard letters from Joann Fabrics for $2.99 each and had a 25% off coupon for my entire purchase. So the letters came out to be really cheap.

 

Painted vs not painted, just so it gives you an idea.

 I hot glued on pennies and that was it!

 

I think the longest process was finding pennies. lol. 

I even asked a girl at work if I could trade her a quarter for some pennies. I think she thought I was nuts. :P

Mint Candy Apple & Georgetown Cupcakes

Today was a very good Monday. 

I am able to cross something off my bucket list. 

I got Georgetown cupcakes today. :)

Life. Complete.

On another note, I believe I found my new favorite color for the spring/summer. 

The hunt for the Essie Mint Candy Apple was so worth it after I applied the nail polish. 

Worth every.penny. 

Pretty close to Tiffany's Co. color!
