I have a question

What does your desk look like?

Apple Pie Bites & Need Your HELP!

Happy Wednesday!

Good ol' hump day.
It's back.

After my financial management meeting today, we had a staff appreciation luncheon, and had a BIG cookout.
Everything was SO delicious.
I was originally going to make cookies, but am so sick of making cookies to be honest, I wanted to make some new and something that is fresh.
So I went on my handy - dandy pinterest board, and decided on Apple Pie Bites.

And they were delicious!
I couldn't believe that they were all gone so quickly.
Seems like everyone loved them. :)

The recipe comes from another blogger, but here are the instructions:
{I do not take credit for this recipe}
These are my own photos though.

Here's the recipe:

Bite Size Apple Pies
Taste of Home

1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 pkg. (14.1 oz..} refrigerated pie crust
3 tbsp. melted butter, divided
2 medium tart apples, each cut into 8 wedges

In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon, set aside 1 Tbsp. On a lightly floured surface, unroll the pastry. Brush with  2 Tbsp. melted butter, sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture.

Cut each sheet into 8 one inch strips, about 8 in. long. Wrap one strip around each apple wedge, placing sugared side of pastry against apple.

Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet. Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar mixture. bake at 425 for 13-15 minutes or until pastry is golden brown. Serve warm. Makes 16.

So you need to try them! They were simple to make, I believe the hardest part was cutting the apples.

Anyway, I need your help!
I have been doing a lot of spring cleaning this past weekend and I have a bare wall next to our kitchen, in our dining room area.
It's right next to our door to come into our apartment, and it's SO bare.

The spice rack we threw away because it was junk and everything falls off of it.
And please excuse the container and bag of water, it's where I was cleaning.
As you can tell the molding is falling off as well, so I need something to cover it up.

Any ideas of what I can do with this spot?
I'm not very good with interior decorating, so I'm relying on you guys to give me ideas.
HELP!

Forever 21 Shopping

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Over the weekend I finally used up my gift cards for Forever 21.
I wish I could say that they were burning a hole in my pocket, but they weren't.
It's taken me a few trips to find things I actually liked in there.
Could be a sign I'm getting older. :/

Anyway, like I said in my last post, I am on the hunt for clothing for the cruise. Our first one!
So I'm here today to share some of the things I bought.
Waiting for the package to come in the mail before I take pictures of outfits.

Everything is suppose to be here Friday, so I will see how everything fits.
Let's hope the majority of it fits right.
Forever 21 sometimes runs weird, so I like to read the reviews of other girls trying them out.

Have a great rest of the night!

Cruise Shopping....

Happy Monday!

I leave for my first cruise in 33 days.
What do I have?
A passport.
Well that is a good thing, but what about my attire?
From what I've been told, I'll be in my bikini and bathing suit cover up most of the time.
But let's be realistic, I need to purchase clothes.

So I picked up two items so far.
And some from this past weekend {will share in future post}

Both items are from Kohls. And I'm super excited about them.

I picked up a maxi skirt (which was only $19.99!)
And a pair of sail boat shorts ($17.99)

 photo DSC01723_zpse7b66a89.jpg

How cute are these?!

 photo DSC01724_zpsc3c33df7.jpg

Fitting room pics. I also tried on the yellow tank to go with it, but decided against it. I might go with a chambray button up.

So this is the extent of my cruise shopping.
I have more to share this coming week.

How do you prepare for vacation?!

Guest Post: Lauren from The Lo Down

Happy Thursday!

Today I have Lauren from The Lo Down!
She has such a great blog, and she always makes me laugh, and is so relate-able!
You have to check out her blog, it's fabulous! :)

Hi all you lovely cupcakers! Today is a really cool day because Vanessa asked me a few days ago if I would guest post for her while she was away at a business conference. “Of course I would!” I said. This is exciting because she was my first blog friend, ever. This is no joke. And two, I’m not a fashionable or glitzy type blogger (like she is! Hello fun outfits and jewelry arm parties!) so the fact she asked me is an honor.
I will admit I had a hard time coming up with something good enough for vanessa’s blog. I didn’t want to be a disappointment after all! But I think I’ve got something good up my sleeve.

But first and foremost, I should introduce myself. My name is lauren and I blog over at the LO Down. Basically my blog is my day-to-day life adventures, most recently consisting of a ganglion cyst and a ripped off toenail.
 photo 4d0459b4-473f-4340-abc2-a0f59742253e_zpsc2ac1409.jpg
If that wasn’t a great introduction, I don’t know what else is.
So back to that toenail…Yesterday, I blogged about how excruciating it was for me to slowly have my toenail ripped off by the front door to my parents’ house.  That damn door, you gotta watch out for it! So keeping up with the same subject, let me throw it back to my FRESHMAN YEAR IN HIGHSCHOOL.  Why did I capitalize that statement? Well because it’s so embarrassing that you need to understand I was already 14 years old and it is just pathetic.
 photo chip_zps6b311283.jpg
This is Chip. My beloved parakeet. I did everything with this bird, including feeding him popcorn & cheese balls while watching movies, and let him fly around with me in the house. He was a little shit to everyone but me. I fed him and took care of him and he really lived a long life. He was my best friend!
Well one day, actually, the first day of the year 2000 to be exact…this young girl and her mother me (14 year old, keep remembering this) and my mom were watching Animal Planet while taking down the Christmas decorations. We had been taking a break and during this time a segment on birds came on. It really was so cute, and now that I think about it, I don’t know why I loved birds so much but I do—still do to this day. I said outloud “aww how CUTE! Let me go get CHIP!” so I’m just so enthralled with this show, that I felt it was necessary to walk RUN down the hall to get my bird, like he was going to watch the birds on TV.

What do you think happened?
I slammed my pinky finger into the molding in the walkway as I was rounding the corner to my room. Knocked that little pinky finger out of its socket. Picture the way your fingers look when you mean the “L” for loser. That’s what my finger looked like (except it was going outwards to the left, and it was my PINKY). I yelled and screamed and my mom came down and said well let’s just put ice on it. Okay MOM, I CAN’T MOVE MY FINGER. It was literally stuck like that.
So of course, this resulted in a trip to the emergency room, on NEW YEARS DAY (did you forget it was this day). It was the year 2000, and the ER was FILLED with idiots who did something ridiculous to celebrate the last year of the 90s.  that had to be the longest wait time of my life. And it all resulted in pulling the finger out and setting it back into its correct position, and a splint…and an embarrassing story to blog about.
Oh to be 14 again.
Seriously, who runs after their parakeet to watch a TV show, when they are FOURTEEN.
Come on by and see what else I’m up to, it’s always an adventure!!
 photo signature_zps29ef3b15.png

Oh and ps: my mom swears she’ll never take me to the emergency room again, and made me aware of this again last night. Thank god I don’t live at home anymore and have a husband to do that!!

I'll be back on Friday. Have a great Thursday!

Guest Post: Holly Goes Lightly DIY Pearl Cage Nacklace

 Happy Wednesday!

I'm currently away at a business conference for two days, so I'm going to have guest posts for the next two days.

To start, Holly from over at Holly Goes Lightly is guest posting today, and I am SO excited to have her.
I love her blog and I love all her DIY's and recipes.
You HAVE to check out her blog, it's definitely one of my favorites.
Thanks so much for guest posting for me!

Hi Cupcake Couture readers!  My name is Holly, from Holly Goes Lightly :)  I'm so happy and excited to share this post with you today!!

Have any of you been to Silver Dollar City?  Well, back in the day my family made the pilgrimage to this hill billy amusement park (no, really!) in Missouri.  When I was there, I got one of those clam shells that they open for you so you can keep the pearl inside.  Mine was very pretty, and they packaged it up in a little baggy and off I went.

That pearl has stayed in the baggy ever since.  I figured it was high time I do something to make it wearable.  So, I came up with this cage pendant idea.  I tried several variations, but apparently bending metal is not my forte.  Instead, I used this simple spiral to hold my pearl.

You will need:
  • Metal wire
  • Pearl or other round bead or marble
  • Jump ring
  • Chain
  • Round nose pliers
  • Wire cutters
First, cut off a portion of your wire to make it more manageable.  Then, simply form it into a tight, tiny spiral that is just bigger than the diameter of your orb.

Separate the spiral by stretching it downward, and place your pearl inside.

Then, simply continue the spiral, tightening the diameter as you reach the top of the pearl.

Snip the excess, add a jump ring, and you're done!

You can wear it alone, but I thought mine looked kind of pretty along side a little crystal pendant.
Happy crafting! :)
